Asheville’s newest Biscuit Head open tomorrow

The Biltmore Avenue location of Biscuit Head opens officially Thursday. The place was humming at today’s soft opening, with a line already out the door at the designated 10 a.m. opening.

“Good morning y’all!” chef and owner Jason Roy shouted from his position on the line, his wife, Carolyn, manning the register.

The brunch-style biscuit cafe is the second location for the Roys, who opened their flagship Haywood Road restaurant just over a year ago. The latest Biscuit Head takes over the space vacated by Tomato Jam Cafe, which closed last year.

“Don’t forget that jam bar, y’all!” Roy called out from the stove, lest we forget.

Like the original location, the Doctor’s Park eatery has spread of house-made jams, syrups, hot sauces, and honeys. The “Sweet Heat” hot sauce is notable for the fact that it’s practically required eating, especially when poured liberally over the Mimosa Biscuit, which has slaw, apple butter, a poached egg and fried chicken.

The interior of the newest Biscuit Head is, like its parent eatery, eclectically decorated and inviting.

“We want people to come in from the hospital and feel totally transformed,” said Roy. “And we think we hit that.”

Biscuit Head is open 7 a.m.-4 p.m. at 417 Biltmore Ave. More at www.biscuitheads.com.
